SAE Digital Citizenship Interactive Earns EdTech Cool Tool Finalist Spots

SAE International’s A World In Motion® (AWIM) and d’Vinci Interactive are honored to be named finalists in two categories of the EdTech Cool Tool Awards for the Investigating Digital Citizenship curriculum. The interactive online STEM educational curriculum earned recognition for New Product or Service and Student Data Privacy Solution.

Investigating Digital Citizenship gives teachers and middle school students a fun, safe way to explore the impact social media and online content may have on their lives while teaching them the skills they need to be savvy, safe, and responsible online.

Throughout the ten lessons and various activities, students learn about digital safety, ethics, communication, and literacy through illustrated characters set on stage at a school drama production. The characters must decipher clues, solve puzzles, and answer questions related to digital citizenship as they journey together to help a friend in need.

“In today’s fully digital world, it is more important than ever that students have a set of principles and behaviors to follow when interacting with technology in a way that is safe and positive for themselves and others,” said Jamie Ferguson, Executive Director, Foundation and STEM Learning. “In collaboration with d’Vinci, we developed the Investigating Digital Citizenship curriculum, the second in our digital citizenship curriculum series, not only to teach ethical standards for engaging online, but also to prepare middle school students for the digital-first workforce that's ahead of them.”

Investigating Digital Citizenship utilizes the ISTE, CSTA, and Common Core ELA for lesson alignment. In addition to the digital interactives, educators may access a teacher’s guide and printable handouts for students. SAE International and d’Vinci Interactive also created the award-winning online curriculum, Navigating the Digital Universe, which teaches elementary students the importance of digital citizenship and STEM Sagas: Virtually Rerouted, a 30-page digital comic book that pairs an adventurous storyline and compelling visuals with information about cybersecurity, computer programming and digital citizenship for 4th through 8th grade students.
