d'Vinci Interactive Gains Award for Unlocking Life's Code Website

d’Vinci Interactive’s work for UnlockingLifesCode.org, an interactive companion website to the “Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code” exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History has captured a bronze Horizon Interactive Award in the Health/Human Services Website category.

Unlockinglifescode.org is a multimedia-rich educational website that gives educators, students and the general public a deeper understanding of the subject of genomic science. Designed to be mobile and tablet accessible, the website provides an educational experience for those unable to visit the Smithsonian in person. The site includes an interactive timeline that traces the evolution of modern genetics from the experiments of Gregor Mendel in the mid-1800s through the completion of the National Human Genome Project in 2003. Other website features align with the exhibit and go into more depth about topics like genomic medicine, genomic social issues, genomic evolution and many others. Website visitors can also take a virtual tour, explore 3-D genomic animations and enjoy exclusive video content, such as The Animated Genome and historical videos. The Learn section of the website offers Genomic educational resources for teachers and students.

The National Museum of Natural History exhibit which opened to the public in June of 2013, focuses on the human genome and looks at human identity in the context of the natural world. The 2,500 square-foot exhibition and the website are the products of a partnership between the Museum and the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI).

The Horizon Interactive Awards has been recognizing excellence in interactive media production worldwide since 2001. UnlockingLifesCode.org was also recently awarded an honorable mention in the Creativity Media & Interactive competition.
