d’Vinci Interactive has captured a Communicator Silver Award of Distinction in Interactive Media/Corporate Training for an employee onboarding program for Schindler Elevator Corporation, a leading global provider of elevators, escalators and related services.
Elevator: A Moving Story was developed for newly hired Schindler employees. The online course discusses all aspects of elevators and escalators, covering the history of elevators, the different types, how the doors open and close, how they go up and down and the many safety systems built into every function.
The program takes eight hours of a standup course taught by a master elevator engineer and condenses it into a two-hour eLearning course. Working closely with Schindler, d’Vinci provided the programming, interface design, graphics, illustration, instructional design and other development activities.
In addition to taking a storytelling approach, the course uses a wide variety of multimedia and interactions to engage and teach. Elegant illustrations add understanding to the text descriptions. Programmed in Captivate, animations demonstrate how elevators and escalators work. Video vignettes taken from the original standup course add a realistic and colorful tone to the training. Many interesting little-known facts about elevators and escalators are sprinkled throughout the content for added learning.
“We get compliments on the eLearning course from both new employees and those people who previously took the in-person training. The use of audio, video and interesting facts really engages our employees without overwhelming them,” said Michael Yurchuk, manager of learning and development at Schindler.
The course is self-contained and designed to deploy through Schindler’s internal Learning Management System and also through any modern browser.
