Reading is Fundamental

Client Profile

Bringing student literacy tools to educators and parents.

Since its founding in 1966, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) has been committed to literacy efforts throughout the United States. After years of success with print book reading programs, RIF came to d’Vinci Interactive to plan a new phase of online resources.

d’Vinci and RIF created a series of digital tools designed to foster a love of reading and literacy development in children. Prior to development, we conducted focus groups to gather feedback from educators and parents. With this feedback, we developed resources and tools that educators, parents, and volunteers can use to teach literacy to Pre-K, elementary and middle school students.

The flagship product, Literacy Central, features more than 6,000 resources and more than 1,000 teacher-created curriculum folders. Literacy Central includes activities, games, reading passages and videos paired with classic and popular books. Users search by theme, grade level, or keyword to find their favorite authors and illustrators and then download free resources designed specifically for that book.

Features include:

RIF also worked with d’Vinci to design Literacy Network, an online portal for distributing volunteer materials and grant information.

RIF Literacy Central Portal

Digital Resources to Promote Literacy

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) wanted an online portal of digital resources to help educators, parents and community partners with their reading and literacy outreach. d'Vinci worked with RIF to create an engaging online and mobile website that features lesson plans, puzzles, activities, and leveled reading passages. Literacy Central is being featured on McDonald's Happy Meals to encourage kids to read.

RIF Puzzle Creator

Making Reading Fun with Interactive Puzzles

Teachers, parents and students now have a fun, interactive way to bring reading to life with the Literacy Central Puzzle Creator developed by d’Vinci for Reading is Fundamental (RIF). The free, easy-to-use tool allows users to make Criss Cross, Word Search or Memory Matching puzzles that can be played online, printed and shared with a URL. Users can also find pre-made puzzles on RIF’s Literacy Central website.

Literacy Network

Connecting Volunteers to Improve Childhood Literacy

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) wanted a website for community volunteers to use to champion literacy. Working closely with RIF, we developed the Literacy Network - an online portal for distributing volunteer materials and grant information. The website includes an interactive Literacy Facts map. We also developed an application for tracking and reporting program data and grant award information.
