Where to Eat

The tourism link offers many excellent options, but we'd like to recommend a few of some of our favorite restaurants:

The Schmankerl Stube — Authentic German fare.
Nick’s Airport Inn — Excellent food—especially the crab cakes!
Old South Mountain Inn — Elegant dining and excellent food in a historic setting.

We can also recommend other restaurants when you get here.

What to Do

Walk (or run) off your meal in City Park. It has been rated as the second most beautiful park in the country, and we tend to agree. Ask us or your hotel concierge for directions. You can check out other area parks, including the C&O Canal, at a site provided by our local tourism folks. If you’re coming during the extended days of summer, or will be here an extra day, you may want to consider hopping on the Appalachian Trail.

If your interest lies with Civil War history, Hagerstown has been coined by some as the "Crossroads of the Civil War" due to our proximity to many historic sites, including Antietam Battlefield (20 minutes away) and Gettysburg (45 minutes away).

If you’re interested in a live performance, you may want to check the schedule for the Maryland Theater.

We have a nice movie theater with stadium seating at the Valley Mall, located about 10 minutes away.

If you would like to do some shopping, you’ll find the Prime Outlets and the Valley Mall. And, if antiquing is your thing, , you’ll find plenty of shops to entice you. Beaver Creek Antiques and Antique Crossroads are two places nearby. But you'll have to shop quickly—they close at 5pm. They're closed on Wednesdays.

Email us any time if your have any questions, or ask when you get here.
