Company

d'Vinci Culture

> Back to d'Opportuny HOME

We like to consider ourselves a progressive, family-friendly company. As such, we believe in providing a positive work environment with plenty of opportunities for personal growth and job satisfaction. We offer flexible work schedules, within reason, and extensive training, when appropriate.

Sally Reidy says it well: “I have owned my own businesses and have worked in many different situations. After working with d’Vinci for 11 years now, I cannot imagine working anyplace else. It’s a ‘job’ I look forward coming to every day. We have fostered an environment that not only encourages professional growth, but also celebrates an individual’s venture into uncharted waters. No one is pigeonholed here. Everyone is encouraged to develop their talents and take on challenges as they see fit. There is a great respect among us and we all help each other to do our best with every project. My fellow d’Vincians are like family, in the best sense of the word."

Core values to work and live by (from the d'Vinci book of culture):

  1. Make things better

  2. Communicate

  3. Sow positivity

  4. Have respect

  5. Be passionate

  6. Promote things you believe in

  7. Be Consistent

  8. Have fun

  9. The future depends on you

  10. Embrace today

  11. Be thankful

Of course on their own, those are just platitudes. Here is the meat to back them up:

Let creativity seep through all that follows:

  1. Look for opportunities to make things better, and act on it (don't just think about it); this should apply to the company, your work, the work of others, and you personally; don't get emotionally attached to a project, idea or design - it is never "yours" exclusively: seek feedback from others on how to improve what you are working on; look for opportunities to help others improve what they are working on (but not just for the sake of changing it – only to actually improve things.

  2. Communicate - ask for help; give help readily; be ready to teach anyone and learn from anyone; if you have problems with what a co-worker is saying or doing, share your thoughts in a positive way; if you are on the receiving end of a critique, be open minded and accepting, in a positive way; develop open and honest relationships with your co-workers; show humility

  3. Positivity - Work to build a positive workplace and positive relationships with clients; work to lift each other so that everyone can feel good about themselves and their work environment

  4. Have respect: for your coworkers, for customers, for those you do not like and even for those you do not know; for the planet and the environment (commit to recycling everything you can, and to reducing your personal carbon footprint and that of d'Vinci); for yourself (commit to taking care of your body and your mind - if you are not eating healthy food and getting plenty of exercise, you are not only disrespecting yourself, you are diminishing your value to the company, especially as your health deteriorates, which it inevitably will if you are with us long enough)

  5. Be Passionate about your area(s) of expertise; own it, continually try to learn more about it, expand your knowledge, become an expert - and then share that knowledge; however, don't get emotionally attached to a software/technology - it probably won't last; keep an open mind and look for tools that are better than what you think is great; and be passionate about your respect, see #4. Never be arrogant about what you know or convey any sense of superiourity of your ideas or your experience

  6. Promote things you believe in: open source, d'Vinci, Jesus, Profit, The Prophet, Buddha, a positive environment (work, locally and globally); practice what you believe in; but, while promoting, don't try to impose your beliefs on others

  7. Be consistent - ALWAYS consider the users you are designing for, and the coworkers you are impacting

  8. Have fun, look for opportunities to create fun; be careful about doing it at other's expense; be careful not to make it too expensive for the company

  9. Work as if the future of the company, and your livelihood, depended on what you are doing - right now (it does)

  10. If things weren't great yesterday, forgetabout it and embrace the new day - after reviewing your core values

  11. Be thankful - for so many things....not the least of which is the fact that you work with a company that has the same terrific core values that you have ;)
